Christian started as an IP professional in 2012 after obtaining his Ph.D. in chemistry from the Heinrich-Heine-University in Düsseldorf, Germany, where he focused on the catalysis of organic compounds using novel catalysts involving transition metal nanoparticles.
Before joining aera in 2025, Christian gained extensive experience as head of patents, where he was responsible for the global technical IP of a US titanium dioxide manufacturer. Subsequently, as head of IP, he supported the transition of a business unit of a leading global chemical player to an investor. In these roles, he advised inventors and executives on all IP-related matters, from invention harvesting, drafting, and prosecution to enforcement. Christian managed global IP portfolios and implemented strategies to protect IP and enhance its robustness to create value for the companies he worked for. In providing freedom-to-operate analysis for new products, Christian was regularly involved in complex oppositions and appeals before the European and German Patent Offices, which corresponded with their US counterpart patents. Christian was also part of a team that handled an infringement case in China.
Throughout his career, Christian has gained broad experience with chemical and biochemical patents in general, polymers, especially superabsorbent polymers, detergents, adhesives, pharmaceuticals, especially small molecules, inorganic chemistry, especially titanium dioxide, pigments, metal alloys, photovoltaics, and chemical engineering.
