Software-related patents have now out-numbered non-software-related utility patents
Even though the U.S. Supreme Court back in 2014 annulled four patents held by the Alice Corporation – the so-called “Alice” case – the number of software-related patents continues to grow.
In 2019, 61.8% of all patents granted by the USPTO were software-related and since 2018, the number of software-related utility patents has been higher than the number of non-software-related utility patents.
IP Strategist and Chief IP Officer Raymond Millien at Volvo Cars has analysed the recent development and the reality is in deep contrast to the 2014 decision.
